For Pastors

One of my joys in ministry has been doing weddings. This page will be for sharing resources that you may be able to use as you help a couple plan their big day. If I can be any help to you as you navigate this resource, please feel free to call or email me.

Basic Steps for Planning a Wedding
  1. Establish contact with the bride and groom to determine availability of time and place. You may use the form on my Wedding page for this if you don’t mind me forwarding the information to you. If your name is not in the list of pastor’s to choose from, please contact me to get your name entered as a choice.
  2. Establish whether or not you will require the couple to do some basic marriage counselling.
  3. Advise the couple that they need to purchase a marriage license which is only active for 90 days in NB. If one or both of them have been divorced, they will need to take a copy of their Certificate of Divorce (Form 720) with them to SNB.
  4. Give them the url to my wedding planner page so they can have some help with their planning. Here is the link if you need to copy and paste it somewhere.   https://davemacs.site/wedding-planner/
  5. Advise them to use the Marriage Registration Form to send you the information you will need to fill out the forms you are required to use. There are two forms which you, along with the bride and groom and their two witnesses, will sign at the wedding.
  6. Send the Registration of Marriage (Form C-2) in to the government within 48 hours.
  7. Give them their signed copy of the Certificate ofd Marriage to keep as the legal proof of their marriage.
  8. Let them know that the Certificate of Marriage will be in the package they get from SNB. You will have the registration form, which is sent to you by the government of NB, if you are a “registered cleric.”
  9. Offer to do a simple service for them if they wish or offer to send them a wedding planner document which I can email to you as a Word or Pages document. This document will contain all of the information on the Wedding Ceremony page and the Wedding Resources page.
  10. Have fun working with your couple over these next few weeks or months and feel free to email me or call me to chat about any of this material that may not be clear to you.
